{"id":8,"date":"2013-02-15T23:18:29","date_gmt":"2013-02-16T05:18:29","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T06:00:00","slug":"8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.library.unt.edu\/digital-collections\/2013\/02\/15\/8\/","title":{"rendered":"Languages in The Portal to Texas History"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"plain\"><p style=\"text-align: left;\">&nbsp;You already know we&#8217;re about history, but did you know we can help you practice your language skills as well?<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.library.unt.edu\/digital-collections\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/migrated\/4\/Frags_lang_main.jpg\" alt=\"Cover of document with title Comanche Texts\" width=\"200\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p><\/div><p>Although the majority of items in the Portal are in English, we are developing significant holdings in other languages:<br \/><br \/><\/p><ul><li><a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/texashistory.unt.edu\/search\/?%20%20q=&amp;sort=date_a&amp;t=fulltext&amp;fq=dc_language%3Aspa\">Spanish&#8211;5,373 items<\/a>&#8211;including newspapers, maps, letters, and photographs&nbsp;<\/li><li><a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/texashistory.unt.edu\/search\/?q=&amp;sort=date_a&amp;fq=dc_language%3Ager&amp;t=fulltext\">German&#8211;814 items<\/a>&#8211;including materials from the German Immigration to Texas Collection and new items in the Texas Cultures Online Collection<\/li><li><a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/texashistory.unt.edu\/search\/?q=&amp;fq=dc_language%3Afre&amp;t=fulltext&amp;sort=date_a\">French&#8211;575 items<\/a>&#8211;including resources from more than 25 different counties in Texas<\/li><\/ul><p><br \/>We also have items in Czech, Italian, Hebrew, Latin, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Comanche, and other languages.<br \/><br \/>To find materials in a particular language, <a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/texashistory.unt.edu\/explore\/collections\/all\/\">browse a collection<\/a> of interest, or <a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/texashistory.unt.edu\/search\/\">conduct a search<\/a> for your desired topic.&nbsp; When the results list opens, choose a language from the <a class=\"external-link\" href=\"http:\/\/texashistory.unt.edu\/help\/guide\/facets\/\">facets <\/a>on the left-hand side of the screen.<\/p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.library.unt.edu\/digital-collections\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/migrated\/4\/Frags_lang_1.png\" alt=\"screen shot showing location of language facets\" width=\"600\" height=\"288\" \/><p>You may sometimes see a choice for &#8220;no language.&#8221;&nbsp; This generally refers to non-text items such as photographs and physical objects.&nbsp; However, when a photograph contains &#8220;readable&#8221; text such as a banner, sign, label, or plaque, it will be assigned the language shown.&nbsp;
