Last time, we\u00a0went to a\u00a0house show\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(check out\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.library.unt.edu\/music\/2025\/10\/07\/sounds-of-denton-part-one\/\">house show\u00a0blog<\/a>).\u00a0This time, we were interested in Denton\u2019s local music venues,\u00a0so we attended a show at Tom\u2019s Daiquiri, a bar and venue on Fry Street.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The atmosphere at Tom\u2019s was\u00a0lively, and as the bands played people stood up from their seats to dance or mosh along to the music.\u00a0The bands connected well with the crowd,\u00a0with Endorphin Report\u00a0inciting a dance battle between\u00a0their\u00a0guitarist and\u00a0an\u00a0audience member, and Intake Drywall inviting a fan\u00a0to sing one of their songs.\u00a0Tom\u2019s\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0have a stage, which\u00a0allows for an interactive experience\u00a0between performers and audience members.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DPePIcOEeiS\/\">an\u00a0interview<\/a>\u00a0with the UNT Music Library, Aidan Davidson of Intake Drywall shares that to him,\u00a0\u201cA\u00a0venue\u00a0is somewhere that creates an atmosphere for us to be able to really perform the kind of show that we want to perform, and it gives us the warmth and comfort to be able to throw our instruments around and tackle each other and have a good time.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">They\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">did<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0throw their instruments around and tackle each other, which is a\u00a0pretty common\u00a0sight at an Intake Drywall show.\u00a0As music moves away from Fry Street and towards Downtown Denton,\u00a0Tom\u2019s\u00a0keeps music on Fry alive (Johnson, 2024)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0Opened in 2015,\u00a0Tom\u2019s hosts\u00a0shows\u00a0almost every\u00a0weekend, making it the venue that most consistently holds shows on Fry Street.\u00a0Self-described as \u201ca taste of New Orleans in Denton\u201d (Facebook, Tom\u2019s Daiquiri Denton), Tom\u2019s Daiquiri\u00a0brings people together in front of their classic King of the Hill mural; a great place to hang out, have a\u00a0drink, and listen to live music of all different genres.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:0,&quot;335559737&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If Fry Street is not your jam and\u00a0you\u00a0prefer\u00a0the Denton\u00a0Square,\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0find over 25 music venues within walking distance (<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Explore Denton, Texas, 2025).\u00a0With a diverse range of genres\u00a0represented in Denton,\u00a0there\u00a0are\u00a0spaces\u00a0for jazz lovers,\u00a0punks,\u00a0country\u00a0fans,\u00a0metalheads,\u00a0and more.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:0,&quot;335559737&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Rubber Gloves\u00a0is notorious in Denton for being\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">spot for emo and hardcore\u00a0shows.\u00a0Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios\u00a0opened in 1997 by Jayson\u00a0Wortham and Memory\u00a0Ebeier\u00a0as a place for Denton bands to practice.
