\r\nMastering the art of proper citation is a fundamental skill in scholarly writing. Ensuring your citations are correct can be a time-consuming, tedious, and laborious task.

RefWorks can make your [research paper writing] life easier!<\/strong><\/span><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\nRefWorks is an online research management tool that allows you to export all your reference citations and documents into one place for storage and management. Within RefWorks, you can view, organize, annotate, and even share your files, as well as quickly and easily create bibliographies and insert citations into your work. RefWorks saves you valuable time and effort!\r\n

\r\nAccess to RefWorks is available to all UNT students at no cost. You can access RefWorks<\/a> through the UNT Libraries website<\/a>, under the Electronic Resources tab of Most Requested information. Just use your student university email address to create a free account.\r\n

\r\nOnce your account is created, you will see a home screen like this:\r\n\r\n

Within projects, you can also assign folders to organize and store your references. Create your project and prepare your folders first. When you are ready to start your research, visit the UNT Libraries website<\/a>. Select a database of your choice and search for articles by topic or keyword. Once you have found an article you wish to keep, click on the article\u2019s title to open the full record. Most databases have either an \u201cExport\u201d or \u201cSave\u201d option that enables you to export the citation directly into a designated project or folder within your RefWorks account. In addition, you can also attach PDFs to your references! First, download and save the PDF article to your desktop. In RefWorks, click on the reference you want to add an attachment to. This will open an editing sidebar with a pencil icon at the top where you can easily add the PDF attachment. When you need to add a citation to a research paper, click on \u201cCreate Bibliography\u201d to generate a reference list in any citation style you choose (APA 6th, MLA, Chicago, Turabian, etc.).\r\n

\r\nSo that gets you started! There are more advanced features in RefWorks. I will point out two useful ones here. First, if you have a lot of references in a project or folder, you can find an article quickly by searching the tags under the \u201cTags\u201d drop-down box. Usually all the references will have tags that are automatically imported with the article, but you can add your own searchable tags as well. Second, use the \u201cSave to RefWorks\u201d tool to quickly import both an article\u2019s citation and PDF at one time. You can find it under the \u201cTools\u201d icon on the main page. I highly recommend uploading all your article PDFs along with their citations; that way, you don\u2019t have to search for the article again in order to read it. Best of all, you will have free access to your RefWorks account and stored files even after you graduate \u2013 for as long as UNT Libraries has a contract with RefWorks!\r\n
