Texas Production Leads to Texas Premiere<\/h2>\r\n

Bandolero\u00a0<\/em>(1968) is the tale of Mac Bishop, who saves his outlaw brother Dee from hanging for the murder of a wealthy rancher and subsequently flees to Mexico with Dee and the murdered rancher’s widow. Although principal photography began in Arizona, significant location shooting took place in Bracketville, Texas at the film set built in the 1950s by J.T. “Happy” Shahan<\/a> for John Wayne’s\u00a0Alamo<\/em>. The director, Andrew McLaglen (Shenandoah, The Rare Breed, The Devil’s Brigade)\u00a0<\/em>as well as the film’s two male leads, Dean Martin and James Stewart, had already worked on more than one Texas-based Western film. Stewart had even been named an honorary Texan<\/a>\u00a0back in 1956.\u00a0Bandolero <\/em>was Raquel Welch’s first Texas picture and she was reportedly looking forward to\u00a0 a role that would move her out of the sex symbol category. WBAP-TV reported<\/a> Martin’s arrival at Love Field in October 1967 for four weeks of filming in Bracketville. Martin, who told newsmen that he preferred movies to television, was reportedly expecting some on-set danger and was\u00a0 carrying a snake bite kit with him.<\/p>\r\n
