The spring semester of 2025 has finally ended, and what a semester it has been! During the UNT Comic Book Club’s second semester in full action, our community has somehow grown larger, and more active than ever following the completion of our first printed compendium. We started off strongly with our book launch, inviting members of the library to come celebrate with us and playing some games to give the attendees a chance to win some prizes! Our President Emily, and Vice President Sam were also interviewed by the UNT MindSpark podcast, where they got to talk about the making of the club, and our process for the projects.
After we had gotten our start, we applied for the UNT Art Mart and received invitations to collaborate with both the UNT Spark Makerspace for a live art event, and UPC for Lucky’s Fandom Fest! Here we are at our booth at the Art Mart, raising funds for our book production by selling comics, zines, and live portraits by our members:

After the Art Mart, we wasted no time in gathering our members for another outing- the Iron Artist live art event at UNT Willis Library, hosted by the Spark Makerspace. With a few volunteer models, we had a lot of fun interpreting the random prompts we drew!

We also had Lucky’s Fandom Fest with UPC, where we hosted a few lessons on comic and zine making! Finally, at the end of the semester, we wrapped it up with our PDF Party, the tradition we’ve made to share the finished comics with the other groups. Everyone was both relieved to be done, but proud of their work!

That’s another successful semester for the UNT Comic Book Club in the books (haha). It’s been a busy spring, but we couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished as a group and as a community. Special thanks of course go to our president, Emily, expert juggler of all the chaos, and our advisor, John Martin, the Comics Librarian at UNT Libraries! We look forward to making more awesome stories next semester and helping our comics community in Denton connect and learn more about making comics.
