By Becca W.
Hello and happy Spring Break! My name is Becca and I’m a Student Assistant Lead at the Music Library Services Desk. This week I’m making the most of my Spring Break by spending time with family and friends, creating music, and working in the Music Library. Here’s what I’m listening to!
- “He Calls Me River” – Raye Zaragoza (check it out at the library!)
Raye Zaragoza makes political folk music that feels very powerful to me and this song is no different. It also feels “spring” and “break” and beautiful.
- “Time Escaping” – Big Thief (check it out at the library!)
When I listen to this song, I like to sing a crunchy little harmony during the chorus and of course, clap my hands when appropriate. Request Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You from our Remote Storage location!
- “Little Bit” – Lykke Li
A blend of indie pop, dream pop and electronic music, Lykke Li gives us this banger from her debut studio album, Youth Novels.
- “Weekend” – Upstate
I DO “just wanna take you out on the weekend,” but I gotta go to work in the morning!
- “Flowers & Superpowers” – Wafia
If anyone has any tips on how to make a song that sounds like this, please let me know. It makes me feel like I’m having the best dream.
- “Red Room” – Hiatus Kaiyote (check it out at the library!)
Shoutout to UNT Commercial Music Lab (formerly The Zebras) for introducing me to this #awesome song. You’re right, Hiatus Kaiyote, I don’t wanna be anywhere but in my bedroom. Yet, we prevail! We get out, we go to work.
- “Daylight Robbery” – Imogen Heap (check it out at the library!)
I think if my band would cover this song, I’d be the happiest girl in the world. It is just so darn fun and makes me want to DANCE.
- “Strange Girl” – Laura Marling (check it out at the library!)
Guys, be honest – am I a strange girl?
- “So it goes” – Intake Drywall
If you haven’t heard of Intake Drywall, get hip to this awesome local DFW band of some of my best friends. Follow them on Instagram @intakedrywall!
- “U DON’T HAVE TO ROB ME” – DOMi & JD Beck (check it out at the library!)
Jazz, jazz, jazz! Young people doing jazz! I can also recommend their NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
- “I Could Drive You Crazy” – Sierra Ferrell
Sierra Ferrell won four Grammys this year and I know why! It is because this album is phenomenal. Coming soon to the UNT Music Library!
- “symptom of life” – WILLOW
How she makes 7 sound so natural and easy, I would love to know! Beauty is a symptom of life and that is my motto this Spring Break.
- “Tom Verlaine” – Alvvays (check it out at the library!)
I’m leaving you with much to think about here. In my opinion, you should listen to this whole album if you’re into shoegaze-type, indie pop, alternative stuff.
Take a little listen to the Spotify playlist below to take a look inside my brain!
