“Spotlight on North Texas” began in 2016 as a collaboration between the University of North Texas Libraries and the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) to preserve and provide access to community historical materials that document the motion picture film history of Denton County, Texas, including home movies, photographs, and ephemera. Thanks to a second grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities Common Heritage program, we are extending our local media preservation program to Dallas, Texas in 2018. With help from TAMI and new partners  Top Ten Records, Spotlight North Texas will be providing free digitization services for home movies of Dallas and other materials related to Dallas’ film history, including photographs of movie theatres and events held at movie theaters,  movie theater programs, movie fliers and posters, and other ephemera. These preserved materials will be digitally preserved and available onlline at the Portal To Texas History

You can view materials digtiized through our 2016 program on The Portal To Texas History

The “Spotlight on North Texas” project is funded by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the humanities (www.neh.gov).
